Raimund Hoghe first encountered Ravel’s "Bolero" when figure-skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean gave their legendary performance at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo in 1984. In his "Bolero Variations", Hoghe looks into the unforgettable feeling that the duo managed to communicate and the complex roots of the Bolero itself. With five dancers, he sounds out the possibilities of the piece with its characteristic repetitions and convincingly relates it to other pieces by Ravel as well as to other South American Boleros. Thus, following his successes with “Sacre – The Rite of Spring” (2004) and “Swan Lake, 4 Acts” (2005), Hoghe once again invites the audience into his enigmatic yet astute universe with his interpretation of classic material.

Raimund Hoghe worked for many years as a freelance writer, film-maker and dramaturge for Pina Bausch. He staged his first pieces for various dancers in 1989. In 1992 he began an artistic collaboration with Luca Giacomo Schulte which continues today. Since 1994 Raimund Hoghe has performed on stage in person and created several solo works as well as productions with various guest dancers.
